FVSU mourns loss of freshman



November 10, 2015 – The Fort Valley State University campus community is deeply saddened to announce of the sudden death of a freshman student, Crishea Cummings, 18, from Folkston, Ga.
The infant and child development major passed away early today at the Houston County Medical Center in Warner Robins, Ga. from complications of sickle cell disease after falling ill in her dorm room early Sunday morning and being taken by ambulance after complaining of hip pain.
“We extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends and fellow students as well as the faculty and staff who knew her,” said FVSU Interim President Dr. Jessica Bailey. “Her passing is a loss for the entire Wildcat family.”
The university will share information on funeral/memorial services for Cummings when they become available.
The FVSU Office of Student Health and Counseling Services, located in the Florence J. Hunt Wellness Center, is offering grief counseling to the campus community. For details, call (478) 825-6174.
