(Fort Valley, Ga.) - Most teenagers head down to the mall and pick out a Beautiful dress for their senior prom but that was the last thing on the mind of Kyemah McEntrye, a senior at Cicely Tyson School of Performing Arts, in East Orange, New Jersey.
Kyemah sketched and designed her own dress and with the help of her friend brought it to life. Crowned prom queen, the beauty her self quoted, "Don’t let anyone define you. Beautiful things happen when you take pride in yourself."
How refreshing to hear in a world full of weave, makeup, people not feeling good about their selves and stereotypes. Kyemah is being admired by the world right now because she has the strength to do what some cannot. EMBRACE THE SKIN YOUR IN. She is of African descent and proud.
She embraces her roots by wearing her hair in its natural kinky state and getting in touch with her culture by the African design of her dress. Sometimes, we get so wrapped in what we see on TV, videos and magazines that we let the media tell us what beautiful is and we follow them instead of loving the skin we're in. You don’t have to fit in to be beautiful. Beauty comes in all shapes, sizes, and colors.
