An event called “Just for Men, Barbershop talk” was held on Oct. 15, 2015 in Wildcat Commons 5. This event was hosted by a speaker named Toney “TR” Cross a graduate of Paine College and native of Mechanicsville, Ga. Before he began his speech he was asked what he expects from the audience with the speech he is getting ready to present he said, “I expect transparency, openness and leadership”. Now as he begin to start his speech he tells all the women can they please leave the room, solely because of one reason. That reason was he said, “Men won’t be transparent while ladies are in the room”. As all of the ladies left the room, “The Talk” was about to begin. Leadership has to challenge you and the problem with that is, men have problems with dedication and commitment said Cross. After that was said the look on faces began to change, they now began to get in tune with the message that was being delivered.
Throughout the speech the men of the audience gave wonderful feedback. The whole concept of the speech was to emphasis what Cross stated as the 4 pillars of life for a man. These 4 pillars are a man is a King, Warrior, Mentor and Friend. Throughout the whole speech he broke down each pillar and explained the true meaning and understanding of each. After all was said and done Cross was asked what he thought of the turn out and how does he think his message was received and he said, “ If my message only got to one individual, I still gave my effort and that’s all that counts in the end”. With the looks on people’s faces at the end of the speech the message seemed well received by the audience.
